Fei Li-- the Book of Drakkola, a cityscape from imagination and observation; The Beggining
I have been fascinated by the fact that "Drake" means "Dragon" in Swedish since I started the Artist Residency in Kokkola.
When I was reading Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities a few years ago, I had the idea of creating books for each city I visited with the mix of reality and imagination. After exploring the city for a few days in different aspects, and reading (almost half of) Finnish Epic Kalevala; I feel it is time to start my first book, in Drake Arts Center of Kokkola, and I named it Drakkola (at this point).
This idea is also connected to I-Ching, one of the oldest classics in China, a foundational text for the Confucian and Daoist philosophical traditions, in the way of creating the elements and the structure of these books. I am totally immerse in this process at the moment.
